“American Idol” Ratings Hit New Series Low

So the Olympics were evidently not to blame.

Fans hoping “American Idol” would rebound in the absence of NBC’s Winter Olympics competition did not get their wish this week.

Wednesday’s performance show, which drew a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating with 10.8 million viewers, enjoyed only a slight uptick from the prior week’s telecast.

Thursday’s results show, meanwhile, dipped to a series low 2.3 rating with 9.8 million viewers.

Even if it enjoys a 0.1 upward adjustment in the finals, it will only match the mark set by last week’s results show. Clearly, the weakening ratings are more attributable to the declining interest levels in the series than to the specific weekly competition.

Flop “Rake” followed Thursday’s “Idol” with a 0.8 rating and 3.4 million viewers.
