“Homeland” Drops Dana, Jessica Brody as Regular Characters

You know how some shows seem to operate with zero consciousness of fan opinion? Showtime’s “Homeland” is evidently not one of those shows.

After two consecutive seasons of critical burial over the use of Nicholas Brody’s family members, including daughter Dana (Morgan Saylor) and wife Jessica (Morena Baccarin), Showtime’s series has opted to stop featuring the characters as regulars.

The report, which broke on TV Line, says that Saylor and Baccarin will not be part of the full-time cast in season four.

Like former cast member Diego Klattenhoff, they might–and likely will–occasionally appear as guest stars.

While Showtime has not publicly commented on the story and thus given no reason to believe the decision was made in response to critical opinion, one would have to assume it at least played an indirect role. After all, if Dana and Jessica were extremely popular characters, the show surely would have found a way to use them on a more permanent basis.
