Showtime Passes on Kyle Chandler Pilot “The Vatican”

Evidently made without clear eyes and full hearts, “The Vatican” has officially lost in its effort to become Showtime’s next big drama.

According to Deadline, Showtime has officially passed on the drama pilot, which starred “Friday Night Lights'” Emmy-winning lead Kyle Chandler.

Considered a lock when first announced, “The Vatican'”s odds of a series order became increasingly long once negative feedback to the pilot began to emerge. Given the high-profile nature of the project, expectations were accordingly high–and they were not met.

With cast options reaching their expiration dates, Showtime had to make a decision, and it ultimately opted against moving forward with “The Vatican.”

Deadline adds that Showtime is, however, high on pilots “The Affair” and “Happyish.”
