“The X Factor” Eliminates Carlos Guevara, Then Bombs with 80s Theme

Thanks to a voting snafu that transformed last Thursday’s “The X Factor” results show into a performance show mulligan, Wednesday’s episode opened with an elimination.

Unfortunately for Team Paulina member Carlos Guevara, he was on the receiving end of that ax and thus uninvited from the night’s performance show.

Or, perhaps the word is “fortunately,” because while the elimination meant Guevara’s “X Factor” journey had come to a close, it also meant he avoided involvement in the embarrassment that was “80s Night.”

With a performance spectrum ranging from aural toxicity to middling karaoke, the Top 12 show epitomized the word nightmare. Victimized by painfully off-key vocals, cheesy song selections and distracting choreography, the episode amplified the reality series’ worst tendencies without delivering any of the requisite upside.

Only Josh Levi delivered a performance that compared favorably to his past work on the show, and he was far from perfect.

Telling you all you need to know about the night is the fact that not even media, judge and producer favorites Alex and Sierra were immune from negative marks. That a collective of voices so committed to overrating that particular act could not refrain from pointing out its shortcomings is proof enough of how poorly the night went.

Thursday’s results show features two eliminations (please, can’t there be more?) and performances from Selena Gomez and Fifth Harmony.
