Jonas Brothers Announce Breakup; “It’s Over For Now”

The “SOS” from Jonas Brothers fans has gone unanswered; following a tour cancellation and rumors of a rift within the band, the sibling trio has formally confirmed its breakup.

“It’s over for now,” confirmed Kevin Jonas in an interview with PEOPLE.

Adhering to his brother’s “for now” qualifier, Nick Jonas added, “It’s really hard to say ‘forever’…[but] we’re closing a chapter, for sure.”

According to PEOPLE, the decision to split came after an October 3 band meeting, in which Nick revealed his serious concerns about the band’s direction.

I was feeling kind of trapped,” said Jonas. “I needed to share my heart with my brothers.”

Unavoidable in 2007 and 2008, the heartthrob act, often compared to Hanson, had been struggling to reclaim pop music dominance. Recent efforts like “Pom Poms” and “First Time” barely made any impression on the key US charts, cementing the notion that a significant portion of fans had abandoned ship.
