“Modern Family” Ratings Tumble Continues

Critics have been warmer to the current “Modern Family” than they were the previous one, but fans are nonetheless finding it easier and easier to skip ABC’s flagship sitcom.

“Family” continued its ratings slide, falling to a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating with 10.1 million viewers.

While the recent introduction of “American Idol” has crowded the 9PM timeslot, “Idol” is delivering its worst ratings ever in the slot and should thus be providing less competitive impact than in previous seasons.

And insofar as this week’s “Modern Family” did worse than the last original, which went up against a higher-rated “Idol,” the FOX reality show is clearly not the sole driver of the ratings decline.
