Carly Rae Jepsen Sets “Idol” Record with “Call Me Maybe” Success

Having broken out as an American pop icon roughly five years after her “Canadian Idol” run, few domestic music fans likely even know of Carly Rae Jepsen’s connection to the talent franchise.

But those who do know that her pop phenomenon “Call Me Maybe” just set a Billboard Hot 100 for alumni of any “Idol” series, including the United States’ own “American Idol.”

Set to embark on its fourth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, “Call Me Maybe” now claims more weeks in the top spot than any single ever released by an “Idol” contestant. Kelly Clarkson had previously possessed the record with recent hit “Stronger.” That song locked down number one for three weeks.

Still the dominant single in America, “Call Me Maybe” faced a bit of bad news in slipping to number two on the Hot 100 Airplay and On Demand charts (behind Maroon 5 & Wiz Khalifa’s “Payphone”), but it was still a big week for Jepsen. In addition to setting the “Idol” record on the Hot 100, her “Good Time” duet with Owl City debuted at an impressive number eighteen on the Hot 100 chart.
