Paulo Thiago Battles Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106; Results

The unimposing Paulo Thiago shocked the world when he knocked out UFC standout Josh Koscheck, but things quickly fell back to earth when Jon Fitch dominated Fitch at UFC 100.

The memory of Thiago’s win over Koscheck was thus no longer enough to keep his momentum burning; if he wanted to become a contender in the UFC, he was going to have to earn his stripes with a victory at UFC 106.

Thiago fought the undefeated Jacob Volkmann on the show. Who won? Results from UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2 follow:

Paulo Thiago b. Jacob Volkmann via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
*Story of the fight: Thiago was just too skilled for Volkmann. Volkmann scored some dominant positions in round two and three (including a crucifix hold and a choke attempt), but he just could not mount enough offense to overcome the well-rounded assault from Thiago.
