Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” Climbs iTunes Sales Chart

Update: It did not literally get there immediately, but it did get there. As of press time, Ariana Grarnde’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” is #1 on iTunes’ single sales chart.

Based on pre-order sales, her “My Everything” is #2 on the store’s album chart.

Those expecting Ariana Grande’s new single “Break Free” to instantly claim number one on the iTunes Single Sales chart were proven wrong Wednesday.

Despite the hype–and high-profile debut during MTV’s “Total Ariana Live”–the song did not instantly rocket to #1. As of press time, the track, which credits beatmaker Zedd as a featured act, was #4 on the iTunes chart behind 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Amnesia,” MAGIC!’s “Rude” and Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.”

Clearly benefiting from an aggressive promotional campaign, the song might still advance to #1 as Thursday progresses.

And as the second single from Ariana Grande’s sophomore album “My Everything,” it is due to receive significant exposure in the coming weeks. That, too, will help propel the song’s ascent up the iTunes sales chart.

Following a strong reception to her single “The Way,” the “Victorious” star’s debut album “Yours Truly” moved 138,000 copies in its first week of release.

Due to launch this August, follow-up “My Everything” is expected to obliterate that tally when it becomes available for purchase. Songs like “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea),” which is currently #1 at pop radio, and the aforementioned “Break Free” will help facilitate that dominant debut.
