Ratings: US Version Of “Love Island” Starts Quietly On CBS

The US iteration of “Love Island” drew modest numbers.

Based on its premiere night performance, the US version of “Love Island” is not looking like a pop culture phenomenon. Tuesday’s 90-minute episode drew modest adults 18-49 and overall viewership numbers.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, the broadcast drew a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 2.88 million overall viewers in the 8-9PM hour. The 9-9:30PM portion slipped to a 0.5 in the demo and 2.28 million in overall viewership.

To its credit, “Love Island” faced as much competition as a summer show could reasonably expect. It aired opposite FOX’s coverage of the MLB All-Star Game and NBC’s latest installment of “America’s Got Talent.”

Still, it is hard to spin these numbers (and particularly the 9-9:30PM decline) in a positive way. They are also comfortably shy of those routinely posted by fellow CBS reality series “Big Brother.”

Sunday’s “Big Brother,” as an example, drew a 1.0 in the demo and 4.32 million in overall viewership.
