Slash is Rock’s Most-Played, But The Pretty Reckless Claims Largest Audience

Update: While The Pretty Reckless’ “Messed Up World” scored last week’s largest audience from Mediabase’s monitored active rock stations (and still possesses the panel’s top impression count), the Billboard/Nielsen tabulation fell in favor of Slash’s “World on Fire.”  The Slash tune, therefore, emerges as the #1 song on Mediabase’s active rock airplay chart and on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs chart.

An irrefutable smash, “Messed Up World” enjoyed three consecutive weeks at #1 on both charts.  Prior to that run, it spent an additional, non-consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs listing.

After three consecutive weeks in the number one position, The Pretty Reckless’ “Messed Up World” finally ceded its active rock airplay throne.

Mediabase reports that Slash’s “World on Fire,” not TPR’s “World,” now reigns as the active rock format’s most-played track.

The Slash song commanded 1,690 spins during the September 28 and October 4 tracking period; “Messed Up World” garnered 1,642 plays within that window.

Despite losing its airplay dominance, “Messed Up World” remains a force at rock radio. Its impression count of 4.72 million between September 28 and October 4 was the active rock format’s largest for the week.

“World on Fire,” which received more spins, only garnered 4.17 million audience impressions within the tracking window.

If “Messed Up World” also possesses the audience advantage among Nielsen/Billboard reporters, it will claim another week atop the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. “World” has thus far ruled over Mainstream Rocks for three consecutive and four total weeks.
