Twice a visitor as a featured artist, Charli XCX now enters pop radio’s Top 10 with a solo release.
According to Mediabase, her “Boom Clap” ranked as the pop format’s tenth-most-played song for the seven days ending July 21.
The song, which appears on the soundtrack to “The Fault in Our Stars,” garnered 7,711 pop spins and an audience of 48.34 million impressions over that measured period. The spin count represents a week-over-week gain of 1,628.
Only Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd),” which saw its spin count grow by 2,209 to 5,141, is rising faster at radio. It reaches #15 on the latest Mediabase airplay chart.
Charli XCX previously reached the top ten as a featured artist on Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”
Other notable moves at pop radio:
— Sam Smith’s #5 “Stay With Me,” which is the format’s third biggest gainer, pulls within striking distance of Calvin Harris’ #4 “Summer.” It should leapfrog the track by Wednesday.
— Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” rises to #21 on Mediabase’s pop radio airplay chart. It should storm past Tiesto’s #20 “Wasted (featuring Matthew Koma)” as soon as Wednesday.
— As Florida Georgia Line experiences success with “Dirt” on the country format, its “This is How We Roll” remix, which features Jason DeRulo, continues to make an impact on pop radio. It rises to #30.
— 5 Seconds of Summer’s #41 “Amnesia,” Steve Aoki, Chris Lake and Tujamo’s #44 “Delirious (Boneless) (featuring Kid Ink),” Fifth Harmony’s #45 “Bo$$” and The 1975’s #50 “Girls” are all making waves underneath the Top 40.
