Jhene Aiko’s “The Worst” Conquers Urban Radio

Of the singers, songwriters and band named “artists to watch” for 2014, few are living up to expectations as well as Jhene Aiko.

The singer-songwriter’s buzzworthy 2014, which has already included an appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” continues to get bigger. Her breakthrough hit “The Worst” has officially ascended to number one at Urban radio.

According to Mediabase, Aiko’s track leapfrogged Beyonce’s “Partition” to become the format’s most-played song for the seven days ending April 25. While its weekly number of urban radio impressions (27.3M) trails that of Chris Brown’s “Loyal” (27.5M), the number three most-played song, it had previously claimed number one for that measure as well.

Billboard, meanwhile, ranks the song at a healthy number two on its Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. Only Pharrell’s blockbuster “Happy” claims a better position.

It is at a peak of number nine on Billboard’s overall Hot R&B songs chart and twelve on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
