2014 is already here, but the best music of 2013 will deserve ample recognition from now until eternity.
Over the past few days, Headline Planet founder Brian Cantor has been revealing the site’s Top 13 Songs of 2013 on his Twitter account (@cantorpedia). Evaluating impact, vision and, of course, quality, the list celebrates the absolute best music offered this past year.
Reigning supreme are Lorde’s “Royals” and Vampire Weekend’s “Step,” which claimed one and two, respectively. More impressively, both acts landed additional songs on the Top 13 list.
Those selections should hardly come as shocks; while the Grammys did not acknowledge their work the way many in the industry expected, there should be little debate among music lovers that Lorde was 2013’s Best New Artist. Vampire Weekend’s “Modern Vampires of the City” album, meanwhile, was clearly one of the year’s top three or four LPs.
