Katy Perry Ties Rihanna’s Pop Record, Lorde’s “Royals” Dethrones Alanis

Miley Cyrus is fixing to score her first number one on the Billboard Hot 100, but Katy Perry and Lorde continue to occupy the bulk of chart-related news.

Billboard reports that Katy Perry will this week tie Rihanna’s record for the most number ones on the Pop Songs chart. “Roar,” which makes the jump to the apex after six weeks, gives Perry her tenth number one on the chart.

Rihanna and Perry now reign above P!nk, who has nine such chart-toppers, and Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, who each have seven.

— Six weeks ago, Lorde, courtesy her breakthrough hit “Royals,” became the first female to top Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart since 1996. This week, she sets an even bigger milestone.

Having remained at the top for all six weeks, “Royals” claims the longest ever reign for a song by a female solo artist. Alanis Morissette previously claimed the record with 1995’s smash “You Oughta Know.”

Muse’s “Madness” holds the all-time record with nineteen weeks atop Billboard’s Alt Songs chart.
