“The Voice” Eliminates Caroline Glaser, Karina Iglesias, Reveals the Top 12

Wednesday’s “The Voice” results show revealed one of the key consequences of the team concept: when all remaining contestants are not technically competing against each other, surprise eliminations are inevitable.

No, none of the week’s top performers–Judith Hill, Sasha Allen and Danielle Bradbery–bit the dust on this week’s “The Voice,” but several popular contestants who had solid performances did exit the series.

As “The Voice” moves into the Top 12 round, it does so without Caroline Glaser, Cathia, Karina Iglesias and Justin Rivers.

Glaser, whose good looks, charm and unique tone seemed to be resonating with younger viewers, had the unfortunate task of competing for Team Adam. That stacked team includes Judith Hill, Sarah Simmons and Amber Carrington, all of whom had strong performances this week. With powerhouse Simmons and quirky Glaser in his bottom two, Adam Levine opted to eliminate Glaser.

Cathia, meanwhile, competed for Team Usher, which collectively delivered the weakest four performances this week. But she herself was no better than the rest, and with Vedo and Michelle Chamuel voted into safety, she joined Josiah Hawley under the threat of the ax. Usher has been a strong supporter of the good-looking Hawley, so his decision to eliminate Cathia did not come as a shock.

Karina Iglesias delivered an impressive rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” Tuesday, but the surprise voter support for Kris Thomas, the weakest of the Team Shakira contestants, threw a wrench into her run on the show. With Sasha Hall and Thomas cruising to safety, Shakira was forced to choose between Iglesias and Garrett Gardner. Noting that she felt she could do more to develop Gardner, Shakira kept him on the show.

Danielle Bradbery is a clear frontrunner, so her transition to safety was one of the night’s most predictable results. That left Holly Tucker, the Swon Brothers and Justin Rivers in contention for Team Blake. The voters saved Tucker, and Blake then saved the Swons, arguing that they provide his team with a more unique edge than Rivers would have.

The final twelve compete live next week.
