Performance-filled music awards shows are notorious for sending millions of viewers to Google for lyrics and other search inquiries, but while the CMA Awards are sure to bring a surplus of overnight web traffic, the leading search term right now is “watch Conan.”
Surely, thousands of fans are interested in catching up on video from Conan O’Brien’s new “Conan” show on TBS. But the real reason for the buzz is not a desire to actually watch Conan; it is about to check in on a claim that is making rounds about NBC’s successful search engine optimization.
As of right now, “watch Conan” yields “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”‘s official page as the top result. The second result is for “Watch Detective Conan,” while the third is a Deadline.com piece on the show’s premiere ratings.
Not a single hit in the top ten actually brings one to an official TBS, “Conan” or Conan O’Brien website.
