Taylor Swift just cannot escape an awards show without controversy.
While her piano-driven rendition of “Back to December” represented one of her best televised vocal showings to date, it was also low-key enough to avoid the spotlight and attention she usually receives at awards ceremonies. Yet a gesture immediately following the performance sent thousands to Twitter and blogs as they pondered the pop-country superstar’s actions.
Following her performance, Taylor Swift appeared to mouth “what” as she took in the crowd’s reaction. Insofar as Swift did not have her customary excited, “aww shucks” smile going (nor did she display her alternative “intense” post-performance look), some questioned whether the singer-songwriter was upset with something. The “what,” some argued, might have been in reference to something negative she heard on her ear piece.
The world may never get a definitive answer, but bandmate Caitlin Evanson Tweeted, “our girl’s reaction to the standing ovation was super priceless…’whaaaa?'”
