Freshman comedy series “Modern Family,” one of the frontrunners at this year’s 2010 Emmy Awards ceremony, opened Sunday’s broadcast with a big victory, as actor Eric Stonestreet won the coveted Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award.
The category has been one of the most competitive over the last several years, with big names like Jeremy Piven, Jon Cryer and Neil Patrick Harris having been among those under consideration on multiple occasions.
This year, Stonestreet beat out a talented pack of nominees that included co-stars Ty Burrell and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, as well as “Glee” newcomer Chris Colfer, “Two and a Half Men”‘s Cryer and “How I Met Your Mother”‘s Neil Patrick Harris.
