Normally, the idea of Kyra Sedgwick winning an Emmy Award for her work on “The Closer” would fail to shock. After all, Sedgwick, the actress behind one of cable television’s most popular dramatic characters, has been nominated since 2006, and she had always been viewed as a top contender in the category.
This year, however, she appeared to have a smaller chance than usual. All indications were that “Good Wife” star Julianna Margulies, who had pulled some key awards prior to the Emmys, was going to grab the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Of all the acting categories, this one, above all, seemed like the biggest shoo-in.
But Margulies’ win was not to be, as Sedgwick finally grabbed the award for her performance on the TNT drama.
Other nominees included “Friday Night Lights”‘s Connie Britton, “Damages”‘s Glenn Close, “Mad Men”‘s January Jones and “Law & Order: SVU”‘s Mariska Hargitay.
