CBS Wants “Mad Love,” Sarah Chalke Possibly Taking Key Role

On the heels of news that CBS offered a thirteen episode pickup for pilot “Mad Love” comes a report that Sarah Chalke is in talks to join the cast.

Chalke, who had been cast in other pilots that did not receive orders for next season, would replace Minka Kelly (“Friday Night Lights”) in the role of Kate.

One of CBS’ more buzzed-about comedy pilots, “Mad Love” failed to receive an order during upfront week due to a casting issue concerning Lizzy Caplan. Caplan, who guested in the role of Connie, was the network’s favorite performer and a crucial component of a potential pickup, but because the “Party Down” actress was unwilling to commit as a series regular, CBS opted to delay issuing an order to the comedy.

That order finally came in, although it is unclear who will replace Lizzy Caplan. Judy Greer, who has suddenly become a television comedy favorite, has emerged as a rumored frontrunner, but no deal has been made.

In fact, the deal to accept CBS’ thirteen-episode midseason order has not even been finalized, although most believe the show will move forward at CBS.

In addition to Chalke, other stars include Jason Biggs and Tyler Labine.
