“Clash of the Titans” Strong at Box Office, “Last Song” Tops Expectations

“Clash of the Titans” got off to a solid start at the box office Friday, posting one-day receipts of $26.4 million and easily claiming victory for the session.

Now at $29 million cumulative thanks to some Thursday night showings, “Titans” should eclipse the $60 million mark for the weekend.

Elsewhere, “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?” started off with $12.3 million on Friday, topping holdover “How to Train Your Dragon” ($11 million) for second place.

Miley Cyrus’ vehicle “The Last Song” landed in fourth Friday, topping expectations with $7.1 million. Analysts expected the film would earn about $20 million in its first five days; with Saturday and Easter Sunday still to go, it is already at $16.5 million.

“Alice in Wonderland” was fifth with $3 million, topping the $2.9 million for “Hot Tub Time Machine.”
