Chris Kanyon’s Death Investigated as Suicide, Report

The New York Daily News reports what had been speculated throughout the weekend–that pro wrestler Chris Kanyon’s Friday death is being investigated as a suicide.

While a preliminary autopsy did not reveal the cause of death, the investigation is assuming that the cause of death was an intentional overdose of pills–“scores of pills” were found near his body.

Kanyon, real name Chris Klucsaritis, died at the age of 40 this Friday. He had wrestled with WWE until 2004, at which point he “retired” but still participated occasionally on the independent scene. In recent years, he had also been part of a media push claiming that he was released by WWE because he was homosexual.

He also joined Scott Levy and Mike Sanders in suing WWE over the independent contractor label that exempts WWE from having to offer the benefits it would if the wrestlers were labeled as employees. That case was eventually dismissed.
