Warner Brothers finally has a star for its upcoming film adaptation of “Green Lantern,” and the name came right off the short list of names that had circulated the industry in recent weeks.
Variety reported late Friday that after a long period of consideration and speculation, Ryan Reynolds has been selected to fill the role. Reynolds, previously best known for his turn as Van Wilder, broke out as a top Hollywood actor this summer with successful performances as Deadpool in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and as a principal opposite Sandra Bullock in successful “chick flick” “The Proposal.”
Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto were among the other Hollywood names considered for the role.
Martin Campbell will direct the comic adaptation; without a budget locked down, production is not expected to begin until January.
