She may routinely post great pictures on her Instagram account, but Bebe Rexha is not one to let the visuals do all the talking. The singer-songwriter has, on past occasions, used her captions to address issues related to body positivity.
In a Monday morning post, she addressed another problem that faces women in the entertainment industry: ageism.
Along with a gorgeous picture in a black two-piece, Rexha included a caption detailing problematic insight she recently received from a male music executive.
The executive, Rexha wrote, said that her brand was “confusing” because she posts “sexy pics on Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are suppose (sic) to do, especially for my age [29].”
Rexha continues by objecting to the double standard in which women are labeled as “hags” as they age, while men get labeled as “sexy.” She notes that as she prepares to turn 30, she is not running from that reality.
“I’m wiser, I’m stronger and trust me I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago,” writes Rexha, who dedicated the picture to the aforementioned male music executive.
