No, it did not perform quite as well as “Descendants 2.”
Friday’s “Descendants 3” premiere did, however, post strong live+same-day numbers. It ranked as Friday night’s top original broadcast in total viewership and multiple youth and young adult demographics.
According to L+SD data posted by Showbuzz, Friday’s premiere drew a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 4.59 million overall viewers. It also posted a 0.9 rating among adults 18-34. Demo numbers with youth viewers (particularly girls) were even stronger.
No other Friday broadcast drew better than a 0.6 in adults 18-49, a 0.5 in adults 18-34 and 3.37 million in overall viewership.
As is typically the case for high-profile Disney premieres, “Descendants 3” will pickup a considerable number of additional viewers from streaming, DVR, encores and on-demand.
— “Descendants 3” is the follow-up to 2017’s “Descendants 2,” which attracted 5.3 million viewers for its Disney Channel premiere. An ABC network simulcast added 2.4 million viewers.
