During its initial radio climb, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” peaked at #6 on the Mediabase hot adult contemporary airplay chart.
It subsequently endured a few weeks of losses, ultimately settling at #14 in mid-February.
Then the Oscars happened. Buzz over the live performance and the track’s “Best Original Song” win ignited a new wave of interest in the song, and it started to make big gains at radio.
The resurgence is still alive and well; “Shallow,” in fact, should blast into the Top 5 in the very near future. It may even get there this week.
The Oscar-winning “A Star Is Born” song received 2,696 spins during the first four days of the March 17-23 tracking period. Up 17% from the count at this point last week, the count slots “Shallow” at #6 on Mediabase’s building Hot AC chart.
“Shallow” may, however, be able to reach #5 by the time the chart goes final. Marshmello & Bastille’s “Happier,” the current #5 song, only holds a 71-spin lead. Its count, meanwhile, is down 7% from the same-time-last-week mark.
If both songs remain on their current trajectories, “Shallow” will reach the Top 5 on this week’s chart. And even if “Happier” holds on this week, “Shallow” should have no trouble making its first Top 5 appearance next week.
