This week’s US album races yield a split-chart scenario.
Kenny Chesney’s “Songs For The Saints” wins for pure sales, but Drake’s “Scorpion” remains America’s leader in overall consumption.
According to data from Hits Daily Double and BuzzAngle, “Songs For The Saints” sold about 69K pure US copies during the July 27-August 2 tracking period. The figure easily ranks as the week’s best.
While “Scorpion” only sold about 11K pure copies, it leads the way in overall consumption. The inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1250 for paid services, track streams/3750 for free services) yields a tracking period consumption figure of about 147K.
Not nearly as popular on the track sales and streaming front, “Songs For The Saints” generated about 81K in total consumption.
Due Sunday, Billboard’s more authoritative data may differ slightly from that reported by Hits. The differences should not, however, affect the top of the key charts. “Songs For The Saints” will take #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart (pure sales), while “Scorpion” will enjoy a fifth week atop the Billboard 200 (consumption).
