Issued this Saturday, initial projections for Shawn Mendes new, self-titled album called for 95-115,000 in pure US sales and 135-145,000 in total US units.
Those numbers have since received a significant upgrade.
According to Hits Daily Double, “Shawn Mendes” is now projected to sell 130-140,000 pure US copies during the May 25-31 tracking period. The inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) should yield a consumption tally in the 170-180,000 territory.
The pure sales total should earn “Shawn Mendes” #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart, while the consumption figure should yield a #1 bow on the Billboard 200.
Assuming that #1 bow comes to fruition, “Shawn Mendes” will become the artist’s third chart-topping album in as many attempts.
In addition to the enthusiasm one would expect for a Shawn Mendes release (particularly an album being hailed as a major step forward in his career), the album appears to be benefiting from a concert ticket/album promotion. Albums redeemed via such promotions, as a reminder, count toward sales.
The specific impact of that bundle promotion was unclear at press time.
