“A Wrinkle In Time” Leads Friday Box Office, But “Black Panther” Set To Win Weekend

“A Wrinkle In Time” and “Black Panther” were Friday’s top two films.

The new “A Wrinkle In Time” edged “Black Panther” for first place at the US box office Friday.

The latter, however, is expected to seize the throne by the end of the weekend.

“A Wrinkle In Time” earned $10.2 million on Friday, which marked its first day of release. Based on that tally, the film should close the weekend in the $30-34 million range.

“Black Panther” took second place with $10.0 million in Friday receipts. Poised to be less frontloaded than a new release like “Wrinkle,” it should post a full weekend tally of $38-44 million.

Assuming that projection holds, “Black Panther” will enjoy a fourth consecutive weekend as America’s #1 film.

“Strangers: Prey At Night” took third place Friday with $4.0 million. “Red Sparrow” followed in fourth with $2.3 million, while “Game Night,” the day’s #5 film, added $2.2 million to its gross.
