“Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” posted the franchise’s lightest opening day number since the 2003 original, but it still dominated the US Friday box office.
The film earned $23.4 million in opening day receipts. The tally, which puts “Dead Men Tell No Tales” on track for a comfortable Memorial Day Weekend victory, more than quadruples that of the day’s #2 film.
“Baywatch,” which took #2 Friday, earned $5.7 million. With Thursday receipts included, the new film’s cumulative total now stands at $10.3 million.
“Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2” took #3 Friday with $5.3 million, but it should move ahead of “Baywatch” by the end of the holiday weekend.
“Alien: Covenant” (#4, $3.0 million) and “Everything, Everything” (#5, $2.1 million) completed Friday’s Top 5.
