Update: The Billboard Music Awards ceremony indeed suffered year-over-year losses.
Citing time-adjusted fast national data, ABC says Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards ceremony drew a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 8.7 million viewers from 8-11PM ET/5-8PM PT.
The numbers trail the 3.2 rating (-19%) and 9.8 million viewer mark (-11%) drawn by last year’s show.

While the same may not be true in the key adults 18-49 demographic, the Billboard Music Awards ceremony endured a year-over-year loss in the overnight household ratings.
According to metered market data posted by Programming Insider, ABC’s broadcast of the 2017 BBMAs drew a 5.4 overnight household rating.
The number trails the 6.1 household rating drawn by last year’s show. That show ended up drawing a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating and 9.76 million overall viewers on a national basis.
Last year’s show, it should be noted, delivered multi-year lows in adults 18-49 (lowest since 2012) and viewership (lowest since 2013).
Adults 18-49 and viewership data for this year’s show should arrive this afternoon. The initial 11AM “fast national” report will be inaccurate, as it will not account for the live west coast airing.
