Ross Butler Won’t Return For “Riverdale” Season 2; Reggie To Be Recast

The “13 Reasons Why” star was unavailable for season two, so “Riverdale” will find a new Reggie.

Ross Butler is unavailable for season two of “Riverdale,” but The CW’s series is not playing to ditch the Reggie character.

It will instead recast the character, which is due to take on a bigger role next season.

Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed the news in a statement to TVLine.

“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” says Aguirre-Sacasa. “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.”

Butler is a regular on Netflix’s hit “13 Reasons Why,” which is expected to receive a second season.
