Ratings Update: “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Catch” Rise In Demo

Update: Accounting for local market pre-emptions (most notably including news coverage in Atlanta), the final ratings for this week’s “TGIT” lineup are not as strong as the morning numbers.

They still reflect adults 18-49 gains for “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “The Catch.” “Scandal” also rose in viewership.

According to national data posted by Showbuzz, Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 5.57 million total viewers. Last week’s episode drew a 1.3 and 5.40 million.

“Grey’s Anatomy” drew a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating and 7.62 million viewers. Last week’s “Grey’s” drew a lesser 1.9 demo rating but a stronger 7.80 million viewer mark.

“The Catch” drew a 0.8 and 3.40 million. Last week’s episode posted a 0.7 in the demo and 3.41 million in overall viewership.

The absence of NCAA Basketball competition seemed to help ABC’s “TGIT” lineup this week. All three dramas posted week-to-week gains in adults 18-49 and overall viewership.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 6.00 million overall viewers.

Last week’s episode drew a series low 1.3 in the demo; it averaged 5.40 million viewers.

“Grey’s Anatomy” drew a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating and 7.89 million viewers in the 8PM hour; last week’s episode drew a 1.9 and 7.80 million.

While “Grey’s” did not face basketball competition, its first half-hour did air opposite CBS’ flagship comedy “The Big Bang Theory.” Granted, “TBBT” had a weak night by its usual standard (it drew a 2.5 rating and 12.60 million viewers).

10PM drama “The Catch” posted a 0.8 rating and 3.47 million. Last week’s episode drew a 0.7 and 3.41 million.

— In addition to the absence of March Madness competition, “Scandal” may have benefited from specific interest in its storyline. Last week’s episode ended with Huck getting shot, and this week’s episode explored Abby’s apparent involvement in the situation.
