In a Monday morning article, Headline Planet noted that Julia Michaels’ debut radio single “Issues” is receiving early airplay from some major market pop radio stations.
That is not the song’s only early exposure.
Late Sunday night, Selena Gomez posted an Instagram video in which she, Michaels and Michaels’ frequent collaborator (and “Issues” co-writer) Justin Tranter are playfully dancing and singing along to the new single.
“When the people who changed your life create magic @imjmichaels @tranterjustin I’m so happy for you guys -one of my favorite songs they have ever written,” wrote Gomez in the caption.
Gomez is referencing the fact that Michaels and Tranter co-wrote some of her biggest hits, including “Good For You” and “Hands To Myself.”
The video has already amassed nearly 5 million views; the valuable exposure helped thrust “Issues” into the Top 50 on the US iTunes sales chart.
The song, which was outside the Top 100 prior to the release of the video, is now #44 on the all-genre listing. It holds the fourth-best position among this week’s new releases; as of press time at 12:35PM ET, only The Chainsmokers’ “Paris” (#2), Halsey’s “Not Afraid Anymore” (#21), and Lupe Fiaco’s “Jump” (#41) hold higher spots.
“Issues” officially goes for pop radio adds in conjunction with the February 7 add board. It impacts hot adult contemporary on February 13.
