And the drama ensues.
Hours after Camila Cabello issued a statement criticizing elements of Fifth Harmony’s announcement regarding her departure, the group posted another, lengthier letter on its social media accounts.
The letter disputes Cabello’s claim that the group had collectively engaged in long, much needed conversations about its future. Rather, remaining Fifth Harmony members Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Normani Kordei contend that Cabello and her team rejected requests to have those sorts of meetings.
“We have spent the past year and a half (since her initial solo endeavor) trying to communicate to her and her team all of the reasons why we felt Fifth Harmony deserved at least one more album of her time, given the success of this past year that we’d all worked so hard for,” says the statement. “We called for group meetings, which she refused, we asked LA Reid and the label to step in and try to set meetings, which again, she refused. We event went as far as group counseling which she did not show up to.
“So, no, after months of rejection from her and her team, these supposed lengthy conversations never happened, although we pleaded…[efforts to keep the group together] were not mutual.”
The letter continues by noting that Camila’s manager informed the group of her intention to depart this past November; the December 18 Jingle Ball show was to mark her final Fifth Harmony performance.
The statement continues by wishing Camila the best but expressing sadness at “the way she and her team handled the situation.” It also stresses that the four remaining members recognize they would be “nothing without Fifth Harmony.”
They note that they do not plan to continue the dialogue.
