Ratings: “Mariah’s World” Rises On E! But Falls In Total Viewership

Compared to the E! broadcast of last week’s premiere, Sunday’s “Mariah’s World” posted week-to-week gains in adults 18-49 and viewership.

It, unfortunately, did not make up all the ground lost from the absence of the Bravo simulcast. The total audience was therefore much smaller for week two than it was in week one.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Mariah’s World” drew a 0.41 adults 18-49 rating and 0.81 million total viewers.

Last week’s premiere drew a modest 0.28 rating and 0.63 million viewers on E! but added a 0.50 in the demo and 1.24 million in viewership courtesy the Bravo simulcast (which was boosted by its “Real Housewives” lead-in).

This week’s live+same-day numbers are solid by E! standards — they, as an example, best the recent numbers posted by shows like “WAGS Miami” and “Total Divas” — but underwhelming in the context of Mariah Carey’s recognition and star power.

Competition was fierce this week — the Cowboys-Giants game posted monster numbers, and AMC aired the midseason finale of “The Walking Dead” — but it is unclear whether there is much overlap between those shows and “Mariah’s World.” An increase in future episodes would go a long way in proving that competition did hurt this week’s live+same-day numbers.

E!, of course, has reason to take the live+same-day numbers in stride. Last week’s premiere received a big lift from time-shifted/multi-platform viewership; that may also be the case with future episodes.
