The Chainsmokers & Halsey’s “Closer” Receives Big Pop Airplay In Orlando, Miami, Detroit, Chicago

The Chainsmokers’ “Closer (featuring Halsey)” did not receive the coveted “on the hour” iHeartMedia network airplay promotion that allowed songs like Britney Spears’ “Make Me” and Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” to instantly debut inside pop radio’s Top 40.

It did, however, receive a considerable amount of opening day attention at the format.

The biggest first day support came from major market CBS stations like Orlando’s 101.9 AMP, Miami’s Power 96, Detroit’s 98.7 AMP, and Chicago’s B96.

According to Mediabase, 101.9 AMP played the song 20 times on Friday. For almost the entirety of the day, 101.9 AMP actually did provide “Closer” with “on the hour” support.

Power 96 was close behind with 19 spins. 98.7 AMP played the song 18 times Friday, while B96 contributed 17 spins. Again, given that first day airplay promotions did not necessarily run from midnight-to-midnight, this amount of immediate airplay is tantamount to “on the hour” support.

Other double-digit supporters included Miami’s Y100 (14 spins), San Francisco’s 99-7 NOW (12 spins), and San Diego’s Energy 103.7 (12 spins).

Another fourteen stations played the song at least 3 times. A great many more played it twice.

“Closer” is the follow-up to The Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down (featuring Daya),” which spent three weeks at #1 on the pop chart — and still holds a Top 5 position.

The single officially impacts in conjunction with the August 2 add board.
