USA Network’s “Queen Of The South” started slightly ahead of — but ultimately in the same ratings ballpark as — recent timeslot occupant “Colony.”
According to live+same-day viewership data posted by Showbuzz, Thursday’s “Queen Of The South” drew a 0.45 adults 18-49 rating and reached 1.39 million total viewers.
The January 14, 2016 “Colony” premiere drew a slightly lesser 0.44 adults 18-49 rating; it reached 1.36 million total viewers.
Both shows launched in the same timeslot, but “Colony” received a slightly greater lead-in boost from WWE SmackDown! (0.70/2.33 million leading into “Colony” vs. 0.67/2.15 million leading into WWE SmackDown!).
“Colony,” however, faced a theoretical challenge by virtue of the fact that its pilot was widely available prior to the broadcast premiere. The streaming/on-demand factor did not make a huge impact in the long run — it is not as if “Colony” enjoyed a ratings surge for the episodes that were not made prematurely available — but it is still a factor worth noting.
