“Allegiant” Becomes First “Divergent” Film To Miss #1 as “Zootopia” Wins Weekend Box Office

Unable to dethrone “Zootopia” at the weekend US box office, “Allegiant” becomes the first “Divergent Series” film to debut below #1.

Per studio estimates, “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” will earn only $29.1 million at the domestic box office this weekend. Short of the $54.6 million earned by “Divergent” and $52.3 million earned by “The Divergent Series: Insurgent,” the tally slots “Allegiant” at #2 on the chart.

“Zootopia” holds #1 thanks to $38.0 million in weekend receipts. To date, it has grossed $201.8 million.

New release “Miracles From Heaven” debuts at #3 with $15.0 million, while “10 Cloverfield Lane” (#4, $12.5 million) and “Deadpool” (#5, $8.0 million) complete the Top 5.

— In weekly flop news, new release “The Bronze” earned a mere $421K from 1,167 screens.
