Taylor Swift’s “New Romantics” Headed For Top 20 at Pop Radio

Pop radio gains for Taylor Swift’s “New Romantics” have recently slowed, but the song should still rise into the Top 20 on this week’s official Mediabase airplay chart. It was #21 last week.

The seventh “1989” single received 3,769 spins during the first five days of the March 13-19 tracking week. Up 13.7% from the count at this point last week, the count positions “New Romantics” at #21 on Mediabase’s building chart.

“New Romantics” should be able to leapfrog The Weeknd’s fading “In The Night,” which is #20 on the building chart with 3,967 spins, before the end of the tracking week.

But even if it fails to do so, the song would still be able to score a Top 20 position. Justin Bieber’s building #12 “Sorry” is due to be removed as a recurrent, which means all songs below “Sorry” will rise by one place on the final edition of the chart.

“New Romantics” does not face an imminent threat from below. Bieber’s building #22 “Company” is accelerating more rapidly than Swift’s tune, but it is unlikely to close the gap this week.
