Ratings Update: Scream Queens Adds Viewers But Stays Weak; Grandfathered, Grinder Do The Same

Final Ratings: Tuesday’s “Scream Queens” enjoyed a week-over-week gain in total viewership but mirrored last week’s series low performance in adults 18-49.

Per Nielsen final data, the episode drew a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 2.588 million viewers. The previous week’s broadcast drew the same 1.0 but reached only 2.393 million viewers.

The week-over-week viewership gain does not, however, eliminate the aura of disappointment surrounding the show. “Scream Queens” is commanding considerable buzz on social media and scoring substantial boosts from time-shifted viewership, but its live+same-day performance does not remotely befit the pre-season hype.

FOX’s Tuesday lineup also featured “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder,” which both performed in the same manner. They held steady in adults 18-49 but enjoyed lifts in total viewership.

“Grandfathered” posted a 1.0 with 3.329 million viewers at 8PM (vs. a 1.0 with 3.172 million last week), while “The Grinder” scored a 0.9 with 2.864 million viewers in the 8:30PM half hour (vs. a 0.9 with 2.526 million viewers last week).

Fast National Ratings Update: Tuesday’s “Scream Queens” enjoyed a week-over-week uptick in viewership. The gain was not, however, enough to eliminate the aura of weakness surrounding the show’s live+same-day performance.

Per fast national data, Tuesday’s episode drew a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 2.661 million total viewers. Last week’s episode posted the same (series low) 1.0 adults 18-49 rating but reached only 2.393 million audience members.

While “Scream Queens” has been generating significant social media conversation and receiving solid boosts from time-shifted viewership, its live Tuesday night broadcasts are not performing well.

FOX led into “Scream Queens” with “Grandfathered” (1.0, 3.261 million vs. 1.0, 3.172 million last week) and “The Grinder” (0.9, 2.854 million vs. 0.9, 2.526 million last week).

The ample social media buzz and time-shifted viewing is not drawing additional interest in the live/first-run telecast. FOX’s “Scream Queens” once again posted a weak overnight household rating.

Per metered market data, Tuesday’s “Scream Queens” posted a 1.8 overnight household rating. Down from last week’s 1.9, it was the show’s worst performance yet.

While there is no guarantee “Scream Queens” suffered the same drop in adults 18-49 and total viewership, it is clear the show did not markedly rebound on those fronts.

Lead-in comedies “Grandfathered” and “The Grinder” also posted soft numbers this week. “Grandfathered” slipped from a 2.5 to a 2.4 overnight household rating, while “The Grinder” enjoyed a 0.2 lift to a still-weak 2.2 overnight household rating.

Adults 18-49 and total viewership data is due by 11:10AM ET.
