Ratings: NBC’s “The Island” Premieres Modestly, Places 2nd in Timeslot

NBC’s new Bear Grylls-hosted “The Island” got off to a modest start in the ratings.

Per fast national data, Monday’s premiere posted a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating with 3.98 million viewers.

Not objectively terrible for a summer series (especially for one premiering on a holiday), the number looks soft in comparison to that of its “American Ninja Warrior” lead-in. Airing from 8-10PM, “Ninja” averaged a 1.8 with 5.89 million viewers.

“Ninja Warrior” delivered a 1.9 with 6.21 million in the adjacent 9-10PM hour. “The Island” thus debuted with a modest adults 18-49 retention rate of 63%.

Within its 10-11PM timeslot, “The Island” ranked second among network programs. The 10PM hour of ABC’s “The Bachelorette” won the slot with a 1.5 and 5.09 million viewers.
