Clear at this point is the fact the “Pitch Perfect 2” soundtrack will win the weekly album sales race.
Unclear is how many albums it will sell during the official May 11-17 tracking week.
According to Hits Daily Double, the official film soundtrack is currently on track to move 60-65,000 first-week copies. If movie drives a hotter than anticipated reaction upon release this weekend, it could easily top that forecast.
Even a failure to do so would doubtfully put the album’s sales race victory in jeopardy. Mumford & Sons’ “Wilder Mind,” which is expected to claim the runner-up position, is on track to move a decidedly lesser 45-49,000 during the official tracking week.
Other albums on the map include the “Trust Fall (Side A)” EP (~34-38,000), Josh Groban’s “Stages” (~32-36,000), NOW 54 (~31-35,000) and Zac Brown Band’s “Jekyll + Hyde” (~30-34,000).
