Ed Sheeran’s new single “Photograph” impacts pop radio this week, and one of America’s most powerful stations is officially on board.
New York’s Z100 has added the track.
Support from one station, no matter how high-profile, is not a shortcut to the top of the airplay chart. It does, however, reflect favorably on “Photograph.”
Considering the lofty standard Sheeran has established for his pop entries, that favorable reaction is definitely welcome.
“Photograph” is the follow-up to “Thinking Out Loud,” which was the biggest hit of the singer-songwriter’s career. The ballad reached #1 at pop radio and #2 on the all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100.
“Thinking Out Loud” was itself the follow-up to a big hit. Its predecessor “Don’t” went as high as #2 at pop radio and #9 on the Hot 100.
“Sing,” which was the lead single from Sheeran’s “x,” reached #6 on the pop airplay chart.
— “Photograph” was not the only song to land at Z100 this week. “New York’s #1 Hit Music Station” also added Andy Grammer’s career-defining “Honey, I’m Good” and Major Lazer’s red-hot “Lean On (featuring MØ and DJ Snake).”
— In addition to scoring an add from Z100, Sheeran’s “Photograph” won support from Chicago’s B96 this week. The add board closes Tuesday afternoon, and a full report will be published Tuesday evening.
