Mumford & Sons’ New “Wilder Mind” Pacing for 250-275K Sales; Down Sharply From “Babel”

An early forecast suggests Mumford & Sons’ “Wilder Mind” will easily win the week album sales race, but it is not without a negative element.

In revealing that the latest Mumford album is on track to move 250-275,000 traditional US copies in its first week, Hits Daily Double’s forecast confirms that “Wilder Mind” will suffer a significant album-to-album drop.

Predecessor “Babel” moved a considerably stronger 600,000 first week copies in the United States. The 2012 release, which won the 2013 Grammy for Album of the Year, has since been certified double platinum by the RIAA.

“Wilder Mind” finds Mumford & Sons departing its banjo-driven sound in favor of a modern rock vibe. Lead single “Believe” reached #1 at alternative radio, and follow-up “The Wolf” is quickly gaining steam at the format.
