This past week, Wiz Khalifa’s “Furious 7” song “See You Again (featuring Charlie Puth)” reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Next week, it will challenge Mark Ronson’s blockbuster “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)” for number one on the listing.
While its monstrous sales deserve significant credit for that Hot 100 success, “See You Again” is also beginning to gain ground at radio.
The recipient of 1,723 spins during the April 5-11 tracking week, “See You Again” officially reaches the Top 40 on the Mediabase pop airplay chart. After reaching #46 last week, the Paul Walker tribute song rises to #34 on this week’s edition of the chart.
The sizable airplay lift comes in conjunction with a week-over-week spin gain of 1,089. Only Natalie La Rose’s #4 “Somebody (featuring Jeremih)” (+2,045), The Weeknd’s #7 “Earned It” (+2,036) and Walk the Moon’s #15 “Shut Up and Dance” (+2,0004) enjoyed greater weekly gains.
Sheppard’s “Geronimo” also reaches the Top 40 on this week’s pop chart. Up seven places, “Geronimo” reaches the #35 position via the same 1,723 spins as “See You Again” (Mediabase breaks the tie in favor of “See You Again”).
Currently supported by iHeartRadio’s “On the Verge” program, Nate Ruess’ “Nothing Without Love” is the third of the week’s three additions to the pop Top 40. It rises three places to #38 courtesy its 1,686 weekly spins.
— “See You Again” also reaches the Top 40 at rhythmic radio. The song rises eleven places to the #30 position on this week’s rhythmic airplay chart.
— A multi-format offering, “Geronimo” is currently #11 at hot adult contemporary radio, #25 at adult contemporary radio and #38 at alternative radio.
— Nate Ruess’ multi-format “Nothing Without Love,” meanwhile, reaches #16 at adult contemporary but slips to #26 at alternative, #43 at adult contemporary and #49 at AAA.
