Ratings: MTV’s “Eye Candy” Season Finale Drives Slight Viewership Gain

The season finale of MTV’s “Eye Candy” did not produce a significant ratings uptick.

Monday’s episode, in fact, saw no absolutely boost in the key adults 18-49 and females 12-34 demographics. It received a minimal boost in total viewership.

The episode drew a 0.24 adults 18-49 rating with 541,000 viewers. The previous week’s episode scored the same 0.24 adults 18-49 but a slightly lesser viewership count of 525,000.

Like the penultimate installment, Monday’s “Eye Candy” drew a 0.57 rating in MTV’s core females 12-34 demo.

Even given the hefty competition its premiere episode faced from the NCAA Championship game, “Eye Candy” got off to a very slow start on January 12. It occasionally enjoyed week-over-week improvement, but it never ventured into ratings territory that could be considered strong.

No official word has emerged regarding the show’s future.

Recent cable renewal decisions–including VH1’s “Hindsight” pickup and FXX’s second “Man Seeking Woman” order–make it clear that ratings are not everything in today’s television climate.

By the same token, MTV canceled comedy “Happyland” after a modestly rated first season and therefore proved that it does take performance into account.
