“The Hanging Tree” is Most-Added at Hot AC; Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez Follow

Already a top forty hit at the hot adult contemporary format, James Newton Howard’s “The Hanging Tree (featuring Jennifer Lawrence)” is poised to get even bigger.

According to Mediabase, the memorable number from “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” ranks as the format’s most-added song this week. It picked up support from 20 monitored stations this week.

High-profile stations like New York’s 95.5 PLJ and Los Angeles’ 104.3 MYFM were among the twenty to get in on the action this week, thus confirming the song’s support base grew not simply in size but in strength. Number 35 on the most recent official Mediabase airplay chart, the song will continue to soar at the Hot AC radio format.

Meghan Trainor’s Top 20 hit “Lips are Movin” and Selena Gomez’ Top 40 release “The Heart Wants What it Wants” share second-most-added honors this week. Each song received 13 monitored adds.

From a quality standpoint, however, the deck likely falls in favor of Trainor’s tune. High-profile stations like Los Angeles’ 104.3 MYFM, San Francisco’s Star 101.3, Dallas’ 103.7 KVIL and Dallas’ 102.9 NOW all got on board with the “All About That Bass” follow-up this week.
