No motion picture garnered spectacular interest at the Friday box office, but new release “Exodus: God and Kings” attracted the most.
The poorly reviewed release drew $8.6 million in its first day of release. That gave it the edge over holdover champ “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” which added $3.8 million to its haul.
Despite strong reviews, Chris Rock’s “Top Five” could only muster $2.5 million for a third place finish. “Penguins of Madgascar” ($1.6 million) and “Interstellar” ($1.5 million) completed the top five.
On the limited front, “Inherent Vice” earned $128,000 from the five screens on which it premiered.
